El Cortijo

Home is not a place… it’s a feeling.

We were brought here by el Algarrobo – arabic-spanish exonym meaning „the winds” – and we immediately fell in love with the house and bought it. Terrible choice, we knew – never buy a house you fall in love with at the first sigh – but we felt that place was not just a pretty house with gorgeous views. And we were right. El Algarrobo made us change our perspective on life. Made us fully appreciate our existence without searching for undiscovered places, exotic cultures, and adrenaline pumping adventures. We have it all in here. Twisty roads, steep mountain slopes, vertical rocks, rivers, sea, exuberant Andalusian culture, incredibly friendly society, … and our new Home, El Algarrobo. It hugs us and pumpers us day and night with its cosy style and atmosphere. Cares for us with its functional design and amenities. Excites us with its endless views onto the mountains, white-washed villages and the sea. It makes us feel secure and comfortable in its private and at the same time so open space. Its pool and shaded terraces cool us down on the hottest days and the fireplace cheers us up during colder winter evenings. El Algarrobo makes us want to live with the full heart and fully appreciate all that we have. Life is slower in here and easy going. In here we enjoy day after day and take them as they come. This is how El Algarrobo is.

El Algarrobo with its cosy character guarantees comfortable stay for four and will fit six:

  • 2 bedrooms with linens (2, 1+1)
  • 2 bathrooms: shower, bathtub, hair dryer, towels
  • kitchen: dishwasher, washer, espresso, plates, silverware, cookware, ..
  • living room: fireplace, TV, sofas, dining table, ..
  • Wi-Fi Internet
  • terrace: swimming pool, armchairs, tables, grill, ..
  • parking

To Do and See

Flow with Time

So little time, so much to do. Fortunately, the time has somehow slowed down here. One can be busy all the time here but El Algarrobo makes us realize we don’t have to do it all. It’s not the Mañana culture. It’s a simple realization that quality is much more important than quantity. Cherishing quality time makes one happier and brings more joy than checking off items from an unending to-do list – no matter how cool it is. The slow flowing time at El Algarrobo makes everyone more attuned to the surroundings and experience things more fully. The list of options is endless and they are all within the easy reach. You decide how to flow.

The time flows here in all directions:

  • Sports:  cycling, MTB, downhill, trekking, alpine skiing, snowboarding, diving, climbing, ferrata, windsurfing, kitesurfing
  • Recreation: walks, SUP, e-bike
  • Culture:  castles, churches, mosques, pueblos blancos, cuisine, bodegas
  • Relax:  pool, beach, restaurants, bars

El Albarrobo is located in the municipality of Los Guájares on a well maintained traffic-free GR-3204 less than 2 kilometers east from the white village of Guájar-Faragüit. The village has a small grocery store, ATM and couple of bars also serving food. The closest daily street market and large supermarkets are in a coastal town of Salobreña, a 20 minute drive south. In this still unspoiled by tourists town you will find a number of great restaurants and bars and a long stretch of public beach with all necessary amenities. More secluded beaches are located to the west (Cala el Cañuelo, Cala del Pino) and to the east (Playa Rijana). A number of picturesque towns and villages are nearby: Bubión, Capileira and Pampaneira, Lanjarón, La Calahorra and driving/riding around will expose you to many more. A 45 minute drive north from El Algarrobo you’ll reach Granada. As someone summarized “Quién no ha visto Granada, no ha visto nada,” Granada is a must see architectural, cultural and culinary marvel with fascinating history. Within a few hour drive you also will find two other Andalucia’s Golden Triangle cities: majestic Seville and intimate Cordoba – each of them well worth a day long trip. Within an hour drive from El Algarrobo deep into the mountains you’ll find the Europe’s southern most ski, snowboard and DH resort of Sierra Nevada. Terrific cycling traffic-free roads are just past El Algarrobo’s gate. The sea offers calm waters for snorkeling and SUP boards and frequent high winds near Málaga and Almeria present great wind and kitesurfing conditions.
Waterfalls, ferratas, culinary delights, the sea, mountain trails, caves, bodegas, … the region is full of wonders and magic places. If you are hungry for learning the culture, sigh-seeing, sports, and delightful leisure Los Guájares and its surroundings will offer you weeks of amusement.

Cycling

For Cyclists. By Cyclists

Easily accessible on the paved road, secluded in the pine trees, 1.5 kilometers from the white village of Guájar-Faragüit, El Algarrobo is the perfect cyclists base. From here you can start shorter local loops and long demanding rides to acclaimed cycling destinations like La Carretera de la Cabra and into the Alpujjaras – home to some of Spain’s best, yet least known riding. Or access some of the best gravel loops. Sensational scenery, challenging climbs, traffic-free roads, nearly year-round sunshine and pleasant temperatures plus the authenticity and beauty of this still tourist-free region sparkled with genuine kindness of local people makes any cyclist feel in here like in paradise. El Algarrobo is fully equipped to launch you out well prepared for a ride and welcomes you back for well deserved recovery drinks at the pool and fulfilling dishes made from fresh local ingredients served on the shaded terraces. You can always get an ice bath or practice yoga. In case of minor mechanical issues we have the tools, a repair stand and some spare parts to get you back on the road the next day.

We are passionate cyclists ourselves and we want to share our local knowledge and make your cycling trip the most memorable. Roads and options are limitless. Let us know what you are looking for and we will present you with the options.
